Nordics rolls over Rapid River

RAPID RIVER — The North Dickinson varsity softball team wrapped up its regular season schedule on Friday with a doubleheader against Rapid River.

The Nordics easily swept the Rockets with a 32-17 victory in the opener and a 21-2 win.

Game One

North Dickinson started the first inning with a two-run showing with Khloe Roberts and Aspen Anderson scoring on a Rocket error.

However, Rapid River responded with four runs in its half of the inning and the Rockets held a 4-2 advantage.

In the second, a single from Anderson scored Roberts and tied things at four.

Both teams scored nine runs in the third and the game was tied at 13.

But the Nordics tallied five in the fourth to pull away.

They also scored two in the fifth, three in the sixth and nine in the seventh.

The Rockets scored four runs in the sixth, but lost 32-17.

Janessa Chartier picked up the win for North Dickinson. She struck out six in seven innings of work.

Offensively, Anderson led the Nordics with six RBIs. Mary Grace Holmes was close behind with four while Roberts and Aly Steinbrecher each had two. Ava Oman drew five walks. Roberts stole four bases while Lauren Jungwirth had three.

Game Two

North Dickinson started the second game with back-to-back singles, bringing Jungwirth to the dish. She doubled to center, scoring two runs. Holmes also added an RBI double in the frame as the Nordics took a 5-0 lead.

Rapid River scored two runs in the bottom of the frame but it wouldn’t score again.

North Dickinson scored three runs in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth and 10 in the fifth to secure the 21-2 win.

Chartier was tagged with the win for the Nordics. She struck out three in three innings.

Anderson and Jungwirth led North Dickinson with two stolen bases. Roberts went 4 for 5 with four RBIs. Ally Mlostek was close behind with three RBIs while Holmes, Jungwirth and Aly Steinbrecher each had two. Oman and Jungwirth had two walks apiece.

The Nordics are back in action on Friday in Norway for the MHSAA District 97 semifinals against Ironwood at 1 p.m.
