Norway ends season in Grosse Pointe

GROSSE POINTE — After battling its way through the competition in Quinnesec, the Norway Majors 12U All-Stars made the trip to Grosse Pointe over the weekend for the Michigan Majors Little League state tournament.

Norway was eliminated before the championship rounds after going 1-2 in the group stage. It beat Traverse City, 8-7, on Friday. However, Norway lost 10-0 to Tecumseh in Saturday’s early game. Then on Sunday, it lost to Bay City Southwest 15-5.

Game One

Traverse City jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning and then added three more runs to its tally in the second to take a 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Norway found its footing. Miles Langin kicked off the scoring with a two-RBI triple that scored Eli Anderson and Owen Cronick. Langin would score on a passed ball and Norway trailed 6-3 after two innings.

Both teams struggled to put the bat on the ball in the third and then in the fourth Norway made its move.

Cronick hit an RBI-double that scored Zayden Rochon, cutting the deficit to two. Langin followed that up with an RBI-single. Norway then tied things at six on a grounder from Eli Rosatti that scored Cronick. Langin gave Norway the 7-6 lead on a passed ball later in the frame.

Norway added another run in the sixth, on a single from Jaxson Walker, as the lead increased to two runs.

Traverse City scored one run in the sixth, but it wasn’t enough as Norway picked up the win.

Rosatti started the game for Norway. He struck out seven in 4 1/3 innings. Walker closed things out on the mound with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.

Offensively, Langin led the way with three RBIs while going 2 for 2 at the plate. Walker, Cronick and Rosatti each had one RBI. Reed Anderson led the way with two walks while Jack Bourdage, Rochon and Eli Anderson each had one. Reed Anderson tallied Norway’s lone stolen base.

Game Two

Tecumseh jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and Norway couldn’t recover as it lost 10-0 on Saturday.

After opening with a four-run first inning, Tecumseh added a run in the third and five in the fourth.

Reed Anderson started the game on the hill for Norway. He struck out two in 3 1/3 innings.

Offensively, Bourdage, Rochon, Eli Anderson and Langin each drew one walk.

Game Three

Once again, Norway found itself behind early after Bay City scored seven runs in the first inning.

Then in the top of the second, Norway broke through after Cronick scored on a wild pitch.

Bay City would score two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Norway scored three runs in the third inning and one in the fifth. But, it would eventually lose to Bay City, 15-5, after five innings.

Walker and Rochon pitched for Norway. Walker struck out four in 2 1/3 while Rochon fanned two in two innings.

Walker and Colton Flesher led the offense with an RBI a piece. Brock Baldwin and Flesher each drew two walks while Bourdage, Rochon, Eli Anderson and Cronick each drew one. Jake Payette stole one base.
