Cyclists, runners take on DTN challenges

IRON MOUNTAIN — Hundreds of competitors came out to take part in the Dickinson Trail Network events last weekend.

Tour de Dickinson saw 141 participants,

with 35 competing in the road race on Saturday.

“We had an amazing sprint finish with the top five finishing within 10ths of a second from each other,” DTN Vice President and Events Director Sanj Peterson-Rajala said.

First place was taken by Dan Teaters of Green Bay, Wis. with a time of 2:48:25.5, closely followed by Kenneth Beauchamp of Bark River at 2:48:25.8, and third was Kyle Demerath at 2:48:25.9.

On the ladies side, it wasn’t quite as close. Nicole Vanderlin took first with a time of 3:10:20.2 and Stacee Goedtel Birr came in second with a time of 3:10:54.2. Third place went to Leah Vanevenhoven at 3:27:08.8.

After the races, Meat Sweats food truck, along with NUBS seasonings, cooked up some fantastic food with all proceeds being donated back to the Dickinson Trail Network.

“Overall a super successful tour,” Peterson-Rajala said.

Pine Mountain 500 events drew 240 participants spread across all three events.

Awards were presented to the overall winners, along with the fastest male and female to the top of the stairs.

The King of the Mountain was Kaden Malone at 2:11.0, and Queen of the Mountain was Jill Paha, 2:56.30.

Pine Mountain 500 overall winners were:

Female — first, Claire Duchateau, 20:51.90; second, Emily Jokela, 24:16.2; and third, Kinzie Gerbig, 24:16.2.

Male — first, Kyan Lynts, 16:23.5; Chad Bohne, 20:09.5; and third, Tyler Pacific, 22:03.9.

Pine Mountain 500 Deuce overall winners were:

Female — first, Faith Cappaert, 52:36.0; second, Glenda Way, 1:00:08 and third, Jeanne Polishak, 1:01:03.

Male — first, Connor Defouw, 42:50.3; second, Adam Maxwell, 43:02.9; and third, Erik Kosch, 46:32.9.

Female — first, Aubrey Smith, 1:43:49; second, Jill Paha, 1:45:52; and third, Erin Bourion, 1:51:18.

Male — first, AJ Bennett, 1:22:50; second, Joseph Remitz, 1:25:05; and third, David Koehler, 1:35:25.

“After Sunday’s race we had some amazing volunteers slinging tons of pancakes for all,” Sanj Peterson-Rajala said.

DTN has already started the beginning stages of planning for next year’s event, slated for Aug. 1-2.

DTN is a 501c3 non-profit group of dedicated volunteers whose mission is to build, maintain, and promote non-motorized trails throughout Dickinson County.
