Reed races to Super Stocks victory at Norway; Pontbriand extends his Late Model points lead

Izayah Reed holds the checkered flag and is joined by family and crew after winning the Aug. 1 Auto Value Super Stocks feature at Norway Speedway.
NORWAY — The 25th annual Werner Electric Supply feature event was won by Norway’s Joey Pontbriand in dramatic fashion by passing former Norway Speedway champion Dan Lindsley on the outside with six laps to go.
The fans were on their feet as the two cars traded paint for roughly 10 laps before Pontbriand completed the pass. This was Pontbriand’s second feature win in a row and he increased his championship points lead over second-place Scott Stanchina by 73 points.
Stanchina finished third. Second place went to Dan Lindsley, who was fast qualifier at 14.490. Joey Stankowicz was fourth, followed by Troy Nelson, Adam Faull and Tim Baumann, who took the fast dash. Parker Summerfield finished eighth, ahead of Alyssa Larson and Devon Wilcox, who won the heat race.
In the Auto Value Super Stocks, Izayah Reed won his first feature event of the season. The very deserving young speedster will be leaving for basic training in the U.S. military in a few weeks and made a lasting memory. He held off Pontbriand, who took second and was fast qualifier at 15.839. Placing third was Andy Secrist and fourth was Zach Hanson. Placing fifth was Tim Pollard, who took first in the dash. Bode Johnson won first in the heat race.
In the 141 Auto Sportsman, Troy LaFave won his second feature of the season. Finishing second was Hayden McFarland, followed by Todd Schmidt, Jeff Nooyen and Travis Hulsizer. Emily Vincent won her first heat, while Schmidt took first in the second heat. Nick Kroehler was the fast qualifier with 18.104.
In the Whelen Fab 4 division, Zach Gazda got his second feature win of the season, besting Trever Cronick who took fast time at 17.542 and was first in the heat race. Third was Cody Gunville ahead of Eli Whittkopf and Adam Loomis.
Tonight is huge starting with the headliners of Escanaba Speedway Super Modifieds hitting the asphalt for the first time. We also have the second Stage of the CUP (Central Upper Peninsula) Championship between Norway Speedway and Sands Speedway. The Wisconsin Sport Trucks are making their annual return. Spectator Eliminators will be racing to victory during intermission.
