Flivvers battle to draw with Maroons
MENOMINEE — The Kingsford Flivvers captured three of the four singles matches and added a win at No. 3 doubles as they fought to a 4-4 stalemate against the host Maroons Tuesday.
“Overall, the girls all played very well,” Kingsford coach Tracy Rutter said. “The scores do not reflect the matches; most points went to deuce, add-in or add-out.
“Menominee’s girls were well paired with our team. (Our) girls are all working hard and playing well, still fine-tuning communication with their doubles partners, but overall, I was very proud of all of them.”
No. 1 sophomore singles player Aubrie Moore won 12 of the 13 games played in her victory over Elena Murphy to lead the way. Maddy Zeuske gave up just four games in her win over Madelyn Mosey at No. 3 singles and Madalynn Sleik added a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Delaney Wagner.
Kingsford’s other point came from Natalie Bjorne and Macy Giesau, who edged Melanie Franke and Madeline Christiansen 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 to win the third doubles flight.
