Flivvers claim road win at Wrightstown
The Kingsford Flivvers jumped on the Wrightstown Tigers for two goals in the first 11 minutes and went on to defeat the Tigers 4-1 Tuesday in a boys soccer match at Wrightstown High School.
Jett Buckley gave the Flivvers (4-2) a quick lead five minutes into the match off an assist from Jonah Nelson. Buckley increased Kingsford’s lead to 2-0 six minutes later when he knocked in the rebound off a Nelson shot.
Wrightstown cut its deficit in half on a breakaway goal before halftime.
But Kingsford reestablished control just five minutes after intermission when Buckley completed his hat trick off a feed from Evan Grymes as the Flivvers regained their two-goal edge.
Nelson completed the scoring with an unassisted strike from outside the penalty box 13 minutes later.
KHS coach Zach Celello praised his team’s backline — goalkeeper Landon Adam and defenders Isaac Lebouef, Colin Micheau, Jayce Schrandt, Noah Cameron and Clayton Fayas — in limiting Wrightstown’s chances.
“The team really came alive in this game, especially in the second half,” Celello added. “We created lots of scoring chances and consistently won the battle on getting to the 50/50 balls.
“It’s a busy week for us with three road varsity contests, so we were thrilled to start it off on a high note.”
The Flivvers travel to Houghton today and then to Seymour, Wis., on Saturday.
