Florence goes 2-1 at volleyball meet

EAGLE RIVER, Wis. — Florence defeated two of three opponents in a volleyball match Tuesday at Northland Pines High School, falling only to the meet’s host school and eventual winner.

The loss to Northland Pines was 17-25, 14-25. The LadyCats notched wins against Three Lakes, 25-20, 25-15, and Phillips, 25-17, 11-25, 15-7.

Coach Teresa Chrisman credited Sami Demuri for her leadership and consistent serving — only one error. “Miley VanDenHeuvel came alive against Three Lakes,”Chrisman added. “She had several blocks and kills and led with 19 kills, with minimal errors Ashley Peterson was our lone 100 percent server and she is really stepping into her role as libero.”

Kelsi Chrisman led the way in assists, with 27, and digs, 23.

Chrisman said the LadyCats can improve by sticking to “the basics of a good pass, followed by a good set and let’s get the ball to the hitter that is scoring us the points. Sometimes placement of the kill beats power, but this team has a tendency to overthink instead of just playing and reading the game.”

Florence hosts Goodman-Pembine 6 p.m. today and travels Saturday to Crandon for a Northern Lakes Conference tournament.
