OCONTO FALLS, Wis. – Kingsford was one out away from finally snagging its first victory of the season Friday afternoon, but Oconto Falls landed a gut punch with a walk-off two-run single to steal a 6-5 decision.

The Flivvers, now 0-9, rallied for two runs in the top half of the seventh to force the Panthers to take their final at-bat but a lead-off double and a walk with two away set the table for Dom Triechel to deliver the game winner and send Kingsford to another heart-breaking loss.

The decisive blow was the fifth lead change of a back-and-forth affair. Oconto Falls took a 1-0 lead in the first. Kingsford answered with three in the third before the Panthers scored two in the fifth and took a 4-3 lead in the sixth.

The seventh-inning rally for the Flivvers began when junior Jack Spreen, 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot, singled with one away. He came around to score when junior Bradlee Bottesi bunted and reached on an error. Bottesi motored to second on the misplay and scored the go-ahead run when junior Noah Trulock lined a two-out single to right. The Flivvers looked to add more as senior Jacob Deuter connected with a line drive – but it went right at the shortstop to end the inning.

Trulock was 2-for-4 in the game, the go-ahead RBI his third. He delivered a two-run single with the bases-loaded in the Flivvers’ three-run third. Bottesi also had two hits, including a double. Senior Jack Kriegl also had two hits, and freshman Colin Olsen added a double.

Kriegl started on the mound and worked into the seventh, securing a strikeout for the first out before reaching his pitch limit. He allowed eight hits and struck out seven while walking two.

The Kingsford JV team erased a 4-1 hole with 12 runs over the final three innings to improve to 4-0-1 with a 13-5 victory. The Flivvers totaled 13 hits in the win. Sophomore Alex Larson had a three-hit game with an RBI. Sophomore Cooper Kreski went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. The win went to freshman Gino Santoni who pitched five innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs while whiffing six and walking two.
