Olkkonen leads KHS golf
GLADSTONE — The conditions were not perfect but area golfers were able to get on the course for the GNC 9-hole event at the Gladstone Golf Course on Monday.
Marquette took the win in the boys division with a score of 151, Gladstone was second with 159 and Escanaba was third with 167. Kingsford came in fourth with 174 and Menominee was fifth with 195.
Marquette golfers held down six of the stop seven spots. Owen Olkkonen for Kingsford shot a 38 to lead the Flivvers while Marquette’s Boden Moore posted the best round of the day coming in at 37.
The Escanaba girls came away victorious with a score of 199. Menominee was second with a score of 215 and Marquette was third with 225. Fourth place went to Kingsford with a score of 240 and Gladstone rounded out the field with a score of 251.
“Our girls picked up a big win today,” Escanaba coach Jake Berlinski said. “Kamrie (Scott) had a good day but still has another level as a two-time U.P. champion and she will get there by the time U.P. Finals comes around.”
