Niagara’s Payette, Buchanan earn M&O Conference honors

Niagara High School athletes earned softball and baseball recognition in awards announced by the M&O Conference. Niagara junior Grace Payette was named a first team All-Conference infielder in softball. Sophomore Remington Buchanan was selected first team All-Conference in baseball. Niagara softball placed fourth in the conference. The baseball squad finished second with an 8-4 record. Coleman senior Gavin Pusick was Player of the Year in baseball. Crivitz senior Taryn Tracy was Player of the Year in softball.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers left-handed reliever Brian Fitzpatrick is seeking a second opinion after being diagnosed with a partial proximal sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow. Fitzpatrick got injured while throwing a warmup pitch Friday night in a 9-7 victory at Colorado after getting called up from Triple-A Nashville earlier in the day. FHS’s Chrisman competes at WIAA state track meet

Florence sprinter Kelsi Chrisman narrowly missed qualifying for the finals of the girls 100-meter dash at the WIAA Division 3 state meet at La Crosse, Wis. Chrisman, a sophomore, placed 13th at the state meet with a time in the preliminaries of 12.94 seconds. All but one of Saturday's 10 finalists were seniors or juniors. Sydney Knautz of Dominican, a UW-Parkside commit, won the event in a meet-record time of 11.94 seconds. Batteh Doumbya of Madison Country finished second at 11.95.
