Sportsman’s Seminar Feb. 26 in IM

IRON MOUNTAIN — Family Baptist Church of Kingsford invites the public to its 24th annual Sportsman’s Seminar on Saturday, Feb. 26, beginning at 3 p.m.

The hunting and fishing activities will be at the Central Middle School Gymnasium and Cafeteria, 300 W. Hughitt St. in Iron Mountain.

The event features a number of workshops, and hands-on activities, including an indoor traditional archery range and lessons on fly casting.

Seminars are titled “Grin and Bear It,” and “Lost in the Everglades.”

The workshops will include lessons on “Identifying Mammals of the Wild,” as well as learning “Smallmouth Savvy.” Other workshops include: “Fish Wood Carving,” “Trapping,” “Making Ice Fishing Poles,” “Bee Hiving,” “Bow Hunting White Tail,” “Proper Use and Set-up of Spinning Tackle,” “Pan Fishing,” “Snowmobiling and Snow Biking,” and “Tapping for Maple Syrup.”

Displays will include animal furs, the United Sportsmen Club and information from U.P. Trappers Association, as well as Phyllis Carlson, a former wildlife rehabilitator, and her great horned owl, Journey

Dinner starts at 5:10 p.m., followed by “Biological Bass Fishing,” which begins at 6:15.

Door prizes, which are donated by numerous local merchants, will be given away at the close of the event. There is no charge but a free will offering will be available for all who desire to help defray the cost.
