Norway to have online credit card payments

By Daily News staff

Norway has selected a vendor that will allow the city by next fall to accept online credit card payments for such bills as utilities and even property taxes.

The Norway City Council, meeting online via Zoom, voted unanimously Monday to enter a five-year contract with the Paymentus Corporation of Charlotte, N.C.

They chose the company over the Payment Service Network, or PSN, because Paymentus will hold its rates for five year while PSN had a ladder scale for fees over its three-year proposed contract.

The city will absorb the $2 credit card fee on utility payments but not for taxes, which would be more since they are based on a percentage of the amount paid, City Manager Ray Anderson said. Since American Express charges a higher percentage as fee, that credit card won’t be accepted for utilities but can be used for taxes, he said.

The online credit card payment service should be available by mid-September, Anderson said.

In other business, the council favored hiring Energis High Voltage Resources Inc. of Ashwaubenon, Wis., for $1,539 to investigate the cause of a nitrogen leak in a transformer at the Department of Power and Light substation. The company should be able to do any repairs that are needed, Anderson said.
