IM council’s action appreciated
Bouquet to City Manager Jordan Stanchina, then-Chief Financial Officer Carol Bartolameolli, and the 2012-2013 Iron Mountain City Council for refinancing the water bond mentioned in the Sept. 18 edition of the Daily News. That transaction saved ratepayers more than $1 million in interest costs and accelerated repayment of the debt by seven years.
As The Daily News ably explained, the early payoff will keep water rates much lower than otherwise would have been necessary to fund replacement of lead service lines.
When public officials’ actions yield such large and long-lasting benefits, they deserve to be remembered with gratitude and by name: Bruce Rosen, then mayor and at-large alderman; Dale Alessandrini, then mayor pro-tem (now mayor) and first-ward alderman; the late Ted Corombos, then second-ward alderman; David Farragh, then at-large alderman, now second-ward alderman; Colin Jacobetti, then third-ward alderman; Robert Moraska, then at-large alderman; and the late Kay Villa, then at-large alderwoman.
