NBA free agency opens

The Houston Rockets continued their offseason improvements Monday, adding veteran forward Dorian Finney-Smith on a four-year, $53 million deal shortly after the NBA's free agency window officially opened. ESPN first reported the deal, and a person with knowledge of the agreement confirmed the terms to The Associated Press. Houston becomes Finney-Smith's fourth team after stints with Dallas, Brooklyn and the Los Angeles Lakers. MARQUETTE — The Marquette History Center will have maps of the Great Lakes and Marquette County on display from June 23 through Jan. 31. Maps are a valuable tool for seeing history at work. They have been used as an aid to all types of transportation from steamboat routes to today’s single track bike trails. They are also used as a marketing tool, for reference, and entertainment. Artists sought to create mural at Bates Hall

BATES TOWNSHIP — The Bates Hall Preservation Society is conducting a contest to select an Iron County resident artist to paint an original mural highlighting the township’s farming, logging and mining history. The painting will be about 28-by-5-feet on the north inside wall at 3070 E. U.S. 2. The artists must have demonstrated mural experience to be eligible.
