JV Volleyball: Mountaineers win IM tournament

IRON MOUNTAIN — The host Mountaineers downed Menominee 25-19 to capture the Iron Mountain Invitational junior varsity volleyball tournament Saturday.

The third-seeded Mountaineers beat Gwinn in the quarterfinals and top-seeded Escanaba in the semifinals.

“Our team did an incredible job with every aspect of the game Saturday,” said IM junior varsity head coach Lori Cevigney. “We have set some lofty goals for our season, and each player has been working hard so collectively we can achieve these goals.”

The tournament consisted of 15 teams, with three pools of five on three courts. Top two teams advanced into bracket play for the championship.

Iron Mountain junior varsity and freshman teams will be heading to Ishpeming on Saturday for another invitational tournament.
