Niagara names the top five in Class of 2026

NIAGARA, Wis. — The School District of Niagara has announced the top five scholars in the Niagara High School Class of 2026. The five students lead a graduating class of 26. They are — — Elesia Maree Sweig, 18, will graduate with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.994, ranking first in her class. She is the daughter of Heather and David Sweig. She has two siblings, Annika and Landon. Sweig has participated in volleyball, basketball and softball all four years of high school. LANSING — The Michigan Department of Transportation continues to adjust spring weight restriction areas in an annual move to protect roads. IRON RIVER — The Iron Area Health Foundation 2026 Golf Scramble Fundraiser will be Sunday, May 31, at Young’s Recreation and Golf Complex. M-28 project in Houghton, Baraga counties starts Monday

ISHPEMING — The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing about $7.2 million to resurface more than 21 miles of M-28 in Baraga and Houghton counties from the Houghton/Ontonagon county line to Leo South Road. The project includes asphalt overlay, cold milling, culvert repair work, storm sewer repairs, guardrail, concrete curb, sidewalk ramps and pavement markings.
