Forgiveness over revenge

Unfortunately, what concerned me the most about Donald Trump becoming president again is coming to fruition. His stripping some officials who have been threatened of their government-assigned security. Gen. Mark Milley, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, having his portraits taken down in the Pentagon, losing security clearance along with the threat of a taking away a star, etc. Quite alarming, considering the man has been in office less than 30 days. Understandably, one does not become successful and survive the New York City real estate business world by being weak. ...

Bergman presses postmaster on changes to IM VA mail operations

Last week, U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman penned a letter to U.S. Postal Service Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, citing a recent decision that adversely impacts the mail processing for the Iron Mountain VA. In his letter, Bergman demanded answers for why the location’s outbound mail is now being routed to the USPS Processing and Distribution Center in Milwaukee, instead of the Green Bay center as had previously been the case. Bergman underscored the potential consequences for such a lapse in communication from the USPS, “This lack of communication from your agency is entirely unacceptable, ...

Deliberate misinformation

EDITOR: Is lying about people, places, conditions and opponents, both political or not, now a legitimate path to power and success? This was shown to be true in the result of our last election. Some examples of the lies included the behavior of Haitians in Youngstown, Ohio; the extent of crime by Hispanics in a Colorado town; the national inflation rate in 2024; job creation in 2024; and, presently, the wildfires in the Los Angeles area. It becomes more concerning when free speech is used as the justification in social media, broadcasting outlets, and political and commercial ...

What are we fighting for?

EDITOR: The Democrat Party and the “deep state” are one and the same. Notice, I did not say “democratic” party, because they are anything but “democratic.” If there is a threat to democracy in the U.S.A., it stems from there, and from the fact that the deep state has been weaponized against anyone who might disrupt the undercover aristocracy. It is also no surprise that they accuse political opponents of doing what they themselves do. Nazis and Communists practice the same tactics. Totalitarian governments use the bureaus to beat down the citizens and control the masses ...

Cage-free eggs are the future

EDITOR: After reading “When Lansing’s good intentions lay an egg” (January 11), I was reminded of a quote attributed to Margaret Thatcher, “Roosters crow; Hens deliver.” State Sen. Ed McBroom leaves out key details of why Michigan’s egg law is needed and ignores the popularity of “cage-free” eggs by consumers who see it as an ethical choice. Cage-free is also supported within the industry. Nancy Barr, director of Michigan Allied Poultry Industries told Mlive “Our producers are ready. They’ve spent a lot of time and money getting there but they are committed to ...

Upset that new Dickinson board cut 4-H funding

What are they thinking? Monday, Jan. 13, was the first Dickinson County Board of Commissioners meeting with the newly elected members. It was an eye-opening experience, to say the least. At the first citizens time, nine community members spoke about the merits of the 4-H programs. The 4-H Proud Equestrian Program, or PEP, is a therapeutic horseback riding program for adults and children with disabilities. Program leaders, parents of children in the program and one very brave autistic young man spoke about the wonderful things the program has done for them and for our community. The ...
