Wykons girls tennis sweeps Mustangs

West Iron swept Munising but fell to Westwood 7-1 in girls tennis action in Ishpeming Township on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Wykons hosted Ishpeming and recorded a 5-3 win. Against Westwood, West Iron's Grace Smith prevailed at No. 1 singles, defeating Lyn Magnuson 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Getting singles wins against Munising were Smith, Haleigh LaMay and Ashlynn Nichols. Wisconsin schools will kick off the 8-player prep football season this weekend, with Niagara and Florence on the road and Goodman-Pembine getting back into varsity action at home.
