Marinette County part of record daily virus deaths in Wisconsin

Wisconsin health officials Saturday posted a new coronavirus-related death in Marinette County, part of a record day in the state that saw 128 added to the toll.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services listed 128 deaths in the state Saturday — a new one-day record — to reach 5,450.

Marinette County reached 55 deaths Saturday, along with 3,781 confirmed coronavirus cases, still the most in the region.

In Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the state Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site added 71 confirmed positives Saturday: 24 in Houghton County; eight in Alger County; five in Dickinson, Iron, Marquette, Delta and Chippewa counties; four in Gogebic and Keweenaw counties; three in Menominee County; and one in Baraga, Schoolcraft and Mackinac counties. Delta and Schoolcraft counties each had one new death attributed to the virus.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS data site Saturday listed Keweenaw County at 95 confirmed cases and 20 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 128 confirmed cases and 70 probable; Schoolcraft County, 224 confirmed cases and 22 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 232 confirmed, 141 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 271 confirmed cases and 131 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 288 confirmed, 30 probable and 15 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 480 confirmed cases, 90 probable and 29 deaths, one probable; Chippewa County, 669 confirmed cases and 970 probable, and 16 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 773 confirmed cases and 304 probable, 16 confirmed deaths and 25 probable; Iron County, 824 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and five probable; Menominee County, 1,550 confirmed cases, 245 probable and 34 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 1,856 confirmed cases, 454 probable, 27 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 2,061 confirmed cases and 216 probable, 56 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,575 confirmed cases and 440 probable, 61 confirmed deaths and 18 probable; and Marquette County, 3,321 confirmed cases, 462 probable and 52 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Saturday has had 15,347 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 347 deaths.

The MDHHS listed 1,932 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Saturday for a total of 535,534. The state added 103 new deaths Saturday — including 90 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 13,804.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state DHS’s COVID-19 data site Saturday showed 23 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 12 in Vilas County, five in Iron County and two in Florence County. Marinette County had the only new death.

The DHS on Saturday had Marinette County with 3,781 confirmed cases, 356 probable cases and 55 deaths; Vilas County, 1,799 confirmed, 91 probable and 31 deaths, two probable deaths; Forest County, 893 confirmed, 66 probable and 22 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 445 confirmed, 111 probable and 19 deaths, 17 probable; and Florence County, 411 confirmed, 33 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 1,937 new positives Saturday for a total of 520,188 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
