Wisconsin Republicans pitch amendment to block church closures during emergencies

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Republicans are trying again to block government agencies from closing churches during emergencies, this time with a constitutional amendment. The amendment from Sen. Cory Tomczyk and Rep. Ty Bodden would bar any state or local government agency or subdivision from closing or limiting gatherings in places of worship in response to a national, state or local emergency, including public health emergencies. VBS starts Monday in Norway

NORWAY — Living Hope Community Bible Church, W6074 Baciak Lane in Norway, invites children age 3 through sixth-grade students to a three-day VBS starting Monday and running through Wednesday. The VBS will start each night at 5:30 p.m. and will end at 8. A light supper will be served from 5:30 to 6 p.m. The theme of this year’s VBS is “Courageous Daniel and Friends.” Every evening will have a Bible story, songs, crafts, games and a bouncy house, too. Mansfield Pioneer Church summer service on July 20

MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Memories Committee will host the annual summer ecumenical service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20. The old pump organ will again accompany many favorite hymns and gospel songs. The Rev. Jim Janofski, pastor of the Randville Bible Church, will be the officiant. The committee extends an open invitation to anyone who wishes to attend and hopes they will stay for fellowship and lunch after the service. Southern Baptists reject appeals, refuse to accept women pastors

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Southern Baptist Convention has refused to welcome Saddleback Church back into its fold, rejecting an appeal by the California megachurch over its February ouster for having women pastors. Southern Baptist church representatives at their annual meeting here also rejected a similar appeal by a smaller church, Fern Creek Baptist of Louisville, Kentucky, which is led by a woman pastor.
