PATH workshop starts Sept. 16

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Michigan State University Extension will offer a free Chronic Pain Personal Action Towards Health, or PATH, workshop online on Wednesdays for seven weeks starting Sept. 16.

The six sessions offered fully online is a workshop dedicated to supporting individuals living with chronic conditions.

Participants registering for the workshop will receive a free book. This class is offered online from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays: Sept. 16, Sept. 23, Sept. 30, Oct. 7, Oct. 14 and Oct. 21.

The teaching process makes this program effective. Classes are highly participatory. Mutual support and success build participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.

Participants can communicate with others who understand your self-care challenges and learn new techniques to improve your day to day and overall care plan.

Topics discussed:

— Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation;

— Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance;

— Appropriate use of medications;

— Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals;

— Nutrition;

— Decision making;

— How to evaluate new treatments.
