Museum seeks volunteers

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Cornish Pumping Engine and Mining Museum and the World War II Glider and Military Museum will open for the season beginning Monday, June 14. Museum hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Menominee Range Historical Museum will remain closed during the 2021 season, due to COVID-19 regulations and state guidelines.

The Menominee Range Historical Foundation needs volunteers to work at the World War II Glider and Military Museum in Iron Mountain this summer. Shifts are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Most volunteers select one specified four-hour shift each week. Substitute volunteers are also needed.

The Menominee Range Historical Foundation is funded only through admission fees, gift shop sales, memberships, donations, bequests and occasionally grants. Without volunteers it would be financially impossible for the foundation to open and maintain its museums throughout the summer and early fall.

“Volunteering at the museums is a great way to share our area’s heritage with visitors from across the country and around the world and provide a valuable service to the community,” MRHF President Bill Cummings said. “The job includes collecting tickets from visitors and chatting with them about the area’s history.”

Starting at $4.00/week.
