Formolo to speak at convention

IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson County Veterans Service Officer Denise Formolo will be the guest speaker at the Upper Peninsula Association of American Legion 101st summer convention.

The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 of Iron Mountain will host the annual event Friday and Saturday.

Formolo comes from a family of veterans, including those who served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Gulf War. She is affiliated with the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Other highlights of the event include a banquet, meeting and a memorial service.

They expect 125 to 150 American Legion, Auxiliary, and Sons of American Legion members from throughout the Upper Peninsula and lower Michigan to attend.

The advertising committee have been soliciting ads from local businesses to put in the convention booklet. The ads will help defer costs for Post 50 sponsoring the event.

The convention will open at 3 p.m. Friday with the flag-raising ceremony by the Post 50 Color Guard.

Registration will be 3 to 6 p.m. A joint opening session/memorial service starts at 7 p.m., followed by 40 et 8 promenade in the legion hall.

Activities continue Saturday with registration at 8 a.m., followed by meetings, a luncheon and banquet that will start with a social hour from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and a sit-down meal after the social hour.

Starting at $4.00/week.
