Norway recognition day and NHS induction held
NORWAY — Norway High School recently held their Recognition Day program, which also included their 2020 and 2021 National Honor Society induction.
Members were inducted into the National Honor Society by Cindy Miller, advisor. The following students were inducted: Drew Anderson, Emma Anderson, Evan Anderson, Mackenzie Clifford, Brandon Dishaw, Alyssa Gillis, Mackenzie Gilroy, Anna Karkanen, Kassandra Kay, Gabrielle Leiker, Karly Masselink, Jacob Moln, Nathan O’Brion, Tyler Parker, Averie Popp, Kali Stanchina, Ian Steigerwald, and Jeffrey Van Holla.
Seniors at Norway High School were in procession as they marched in the Fine Arts Auditorium for the Recognition Day Program on May 26. Erin Berndt, Senior Class Advisor, served as “Mistress of Ceremony” and welcomed everyone. The National Anthem was sung by the high school chorus.
Erin Berndt presented an inspirational address to the class and an explanation of awards. A thank you was expressed to Bob Madigan and Perry Beyer, who will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Erin Berndt presented the following: Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Award: Jeffrey Van Holla; MTU Women in Engineering Awards: Abigail Brodersen and Mackenzie Gilroy; Michigan Competitive Scholarship Awards: Ian Steigerwald and Jeffrey Van Holla; and Scholar Athlete Awards: Kasse Kay and Jeffrey Van Holla.

The following seniors were presented gold cords as summa cum laude: Kasse Kay, Brandon Dishaw, Alyssa Gillis, Anna Karkanen, Evan Anderson, Emma Anderson, and Jacob Moln.
The following seniors were presented silver cords as magna cum laude: Clayton Corey, Hanna Chrisman, and Dylan Dornfeld.
The following seniors were presented bronze cords as cum laude: Zachary Seat, Michael Plantaric, Taylor Hosking, Jacob Miller, Mackenzie Clifford, Hadli Gregg and Kylie Adams.
The following seniors were presented a pink cord for four consecutive years in the music department: Kasse Kay, Abigail Brodersen, and Anna Karkanen.
Sophomores achieving a 3.90 and above grade point average after three semesters: Noah Morgan, Olivia Rake, Sarah Kay, Blake Dishaw, Tonye Stanchina, and Katherine Steigerwald.
Juniors achieving a 3.50 and above grade point average after five semesters: Gabrielle Leiker, Mackenzie Gilroy, Drew Anderson, Karley Masselink, Kali Stanchina, Tyler Parker, Nathan O’Brion, Averie Popp, James Robertson, Alexys Berrios, Bryce Neuens, Gabriel Hautamaki, Cade Pokovich, and Nolan Amundson.
