NORWAY — The Jake Menghini Museum of Norway will open for the season Saturday. Museum hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays only throughout the summer.
The museum this year is remembering the Spanish flu during World War I. The display includes how a sick room may have been arranged, as well as clothing from the period.
Did you know John E. Anderson began Anderson Automotive in Norway in 1918? They have a display of artifacts from the family and items that were in old car lot building.
On the museum grounds they also have a farm implement building featuring pieces of equipment. They have a sawmill as well that once belonged to the Bryson family and the old “outhouse” that visitors can check out.
The Odill home, one of the oldest in Norway, is filled with pieces of furniture from that time period.
“Those of you who remember Odill Pop will love reminiscing in the ‘pop room,'” said Cris Hamlin, Jake Menghini Museum director.
Jake Menghini’s original log cabin museum building is now on the museum grounds. “Volunteers are working diligently to complete the display in time for this summer,” she said.
The museum’s “town” displays are always rotating donations that residents of the Norway, Vulcan, Loretto and Waucedah area have generously given to the museum over the years. Donations are always accepted and appreciated, as are volunteers.
“The museum is part of the RSVP program and will give provide information on how to qualify for mileage reimbursement,” Hamlin said.
