IRON MOUNTAIN — The First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain will host its second Cornish Market from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 2.
The market will have a host of Cornish goodies, including saffron buns, half-baked mini-pasties, currant cookies (also known as Cousin Jack cookies), potato cake, seedy buns and one-crust apple pies. The bake sale will also have other favorite baked goods such as cookies, bars and sweet breads.
In addition to the Cornish Market, the ladies will offer a Cornish Café where, for a small price, patrons can enjoy a slice of one-crust apple pie with scalded cream and a cup of coffee or tea.
The Cornish recipes used for items date back to the 1800s, when Cornish miners were brought here from Cornwall, England.
The miners later sent for their families, who brought their recipes and passed them down through the generations.
The First United Methodist Church is at 106 Fourth St., near Hardee’s Restaurant.
