Influenza presentation Thursday in Iron River

IRON RIVER –The Iron County Genealogical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the J. Patrick White Conference Room at the West Iron District Library.

The group will view a DVD of PBS’s “American Experience” episode, “Influenza 1918, The Worst Epidemic in American History.” This infamous influenza pandemic was fueled by the transport of soldiers in the final stages of World War I.

The 1918 pandemic had profound effects on life in the United States. By the time it ended, more than 600,000 had lost their lives. However, for all of the horrors that the 1918 influenza pandemic brought with it, the outbreak eventually came to an end.

Historical events like this pandemic have had an impact on the lives of your ancestors. Learning about the history in which your ancestors lived can provide vital clues concerning their lives and times.

Visitors are welcome. Meetings are open to all individuals and take place monthly in the J. Patrick White Conference Room of the West Iron District Library.

Dues were payable in July.
