UPCAP offers online dementia training
MARQUETTE — Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress will offer a three-part online dementia training series, “Developing Dementia Dexterity,” for caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia from 2 to 3 p.m. Eastern time Wednesdays, April 27 through May 11. Each class is an hour long.
The Dementia Overview for Family and Friends training April 27 provides information about dementia as a disease, how the disease affects more than just memory, the role of confusion and communication skills, as well as strategies and techniques useful for daily interaction with individuals living with dementia.
Planning Activities for Persons with Dementia on May 4, is an interactive training providing information on engaging activities and assisting individuals with dementia in a way that promotes contented involvement, as well as strategies and techniques useful for planning daily activities.
Understanding Behavior and Support Needs of Persons with Dementia on May 11 will provide information on certain behaviors, potential triggers and strategies useful for dementia caregivers, as well as techniques useful for providing daily support and identifying triggers leading to potentially challenging behaviors.
Whether a seasoned dementia caregiver, family or friend, this online training series provides a better understanding of dementia and the effect it has on the person with the disease, how to connect with individuals with dementia through activities, and behaviors and the support needs of persons with dementia.
There is no charge to attend any of the Developing Dementia Dexterity online classes, but a computer, tablet or smartphone with internet connection and email address is needed to participate.
