Pine Creek Woodworking receives donations

DAVID COCKING

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP — After the passing of David Cocking of Kingsford in March, the family wanted to celebrate his life by donating to a local program that he would represent his values. Cocking spent his entire life in construction and building things.

When the family read in The Daily News about Pine Creek Woodworking and its mission to teach, serve and work with local veterans and seniors, they knew they had found the perfect non-profit to reflect David Cocking’s passions in life.

Once the family made the decision to support PCW, they decided to search for another donor to match funds they were contributing to double the impact.

Working with the Dickinson Area Community Foundation, the family was able to secure a donation from the Pasahow Family, to match their donation of $1,000 which allowed for a $2,000 donation to Pine Creek Woodworking.

Additionally, one of Cocking’s daughters, Courtenay Nokes, explained the donation to her employer, Nelson Paint, which immediately wanted to support the family of Cocking as well as the new PCW non-profit. Nelson Paint donated a $500 gift certificate to purchase products to be used in completing the facility. Pine Creek Woodworking plans to open in January 2023, offering veterans and seniors space to do woodworking.

PINE CREEK WOODWORKING recently received $2,500 in donations from the Cocking Memorial, the Pasahow Family match and Nelson Paint. This photo shows the family of David Cocking, board members and contributors. In front are Olivia Uhazie and Zander Magley. In the second row are Remy, the Wender family dog; Alix Nokes; Ted Fornetti, PCW board member; Courtenay Nokes; Emily Krull; Al Santoni, PCW board; and Tamara Juul, director of Dickinson Area Community Foundation. In the third row are Jen Wender, PCW; Brad Uhazie; Brooke Uhazie; Ava Krull; and Erik Krull. Not shown is Brad McKinnon. The board of directors for PCW is grateful for the tremendous support received from the community, and is looking forward to encouraging veterans and seniors to enhance their lives through woodworking.

PCW will provide a safe place with all the tools necessary to learn and share skills. Participants will be taught by retired industrial arts instructors and skilled tradesmen.

Pine Creek Woodworking is still in need of additional funds to purchase safe, state-of-the-art equipment. Those who would like to donate to PCW can mail a check, in any amount, to: PCW, W7401 Upper Pine Creek Road, Iron Mountain, MI 49801.
