IRON MOUNTAIN — The Run Iron Mountain Road and Trail Half Marathon has announced its recipients of the two $1,000 scholarships. They are Kiera Sullivan of Florence High School and Danika Varda of Kingsford High School.

“We’re honored to be able to recognize two well-deserving high school seniors with our scholarship program,” said Sara Pericolosi, of the Run Iron Mountain Board of Directors. “We are grateful for our sponsors, runners, and volunteers who make our scholarship program possible.”

The Run IM Scholarship program is funded from the Iron Mountain Road and Trail Half Marathon races, which include a half marathon, half marathon relay, Mooch-a-thon 5K, 2 mile, and new this year, 10K.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be graduating from a Dickinson, Florence, Iron, or Marinette County school. They must show evidence of perseverance and determination to participate in or volunteer at community events, while maintaining active involvement in school activities. Applicants must also provide an essay as to how running has positively influenced their life either through competitive sports or leisure/personal fitness goals.

In addition to the scholarship program, proceeds of the Run Iron Mountain Half Marathon go to the Dickinson County Cancer Loan Closet, with a total donation of $133,500 to date.
