Florence County Historical Society to meet Tuesday
FLORENCE, Wis. — The Florence County Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday in fellowship hall at First Presbyterian Church on Lake Avenue.
Activities for the upcoming season will be discussed, which includes the opening of the museum on Saturday, June 13, honoring all veterans; the raffle of a beautiful quilt called “Amish Stars”; and the Quilt Show and Strawberry Social set for July 18.
New business under discussion will be the idea of “Freedom Bells” — the ringing of church and personal bells to be rung at noon July 4 across the entire United States to celebrate 250 years.
They will discuss the idea of placing Veteran’s Hero banners on light poles on Central Avenue for next summer, Memorial Day to Labor Day.
The group will look at hosting Historical Walking Tours, the updating of the Walking Tour booklet and “Tea and Tours” during the month of July.
A new idea includes a time of fellowship and tours of the three buildings on the National Register of Historical Places that are on Central Avenue.
The Historical Society welcomes all to attend the meeting and take part in the activities of the organizations.
