IC Genealogical Society to meet May 7

IRON RIVER — The Iron County Genealogical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 7, in the J. Patrick White conference room at West Iron District Library in Iron River. Wendy Graham will give a presentation on Alvin, Wis., which will include information on Alvin Spencer, whom the town is named after, along with his family and the town’s history. ‘Give to Gain’ floral winners

To celebrate this year’s “Give To Gain” International Women’s Day campaign, The Daily News of Iron Mountain conducted a drawing for two bouquets locally created by women-owned businesses. The $50 bouquets were made by Linnea & Kristine of Iron Mountain and Danielson’s Greenhouse & Floral of Norway. Participants were asked why each nominee was chosen. The winners were drawn at random.

U.P. Veterans War Memorial and Park Golf Scramble fundraiser set

IRON MOUNTAIN — The 11th-annual U.P. Veterans War Memorial and Park Golf Scramble fundraiser is set for Saturday, June 13, at Oak Crest Golf Course in Norway. Check-in for the scramble is from 7 to 8:45 a.m. at the course. The event will be limited to 30 four-person teams, or 120 players. Single players will be assigned to a team. Cost is $80 per player, with dinner included. They will also have hole-in-one contests, 50-50 drawings and door prizes. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. MARSP Dickinson Chapter to meet May 14

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel will meet on Thursday, May 14, at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain. Members should note the change of date from the third Thursday of the month to the second Thursday. The chapter will conduct a local version of the state annual MARSP meeting. A social hour with coffee provided will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a noon luncheon. A cash bar will also be available. The menu will feature veggie stir fry with an egg roll for $20.
