Cochran denies she helped kill Regan
CRYSTAL FALLS — Kelly Cochran testified today she lied when she told an Indiana investigator she had active role in Christopher Regan’s death in 2014 because she felt guilty their affair had triggered her husband to kill Regan.
“If Chris had never met me, he’d be here today,” Cochran said in taking the stand in her own defense in Iron County court.
Cochran, 34, formerly of Caspian, is on trial for homicide-open murder and other charges for reportedly helping her now-deceased husband, Jason Cochran, kill the 53-year-old Regan and then dismember and hide the body in October 2014.
In interviews with the Indiana detective just after her arrest in Kentucky in April 2016, Cochran admitted to participating in Regan’s murder and claimed to be involved in several other killings as well, though authorities said none of the others could be corroborated.
She also faces a murder charge in Indiana’s Lake County for Jason Cochran’s death in February 2016, which she reportedly committed as revenge for Regan’s killing, court documents state.
But Cochran now says she did not lure Regan to their Caspian home on Oct. 14, 2014, knowing her husband intended to shoot her co-worker.
She testified she did not even know Jason Cochran was in the house that day until he emerged from the basement and shot Regan in the back of the head.
She only helped her husband dispose of the body afterwards because she feared him, she said, claiming he had abused her and several times pointed a gun at her in the past.
The defense, which started its case this morning, maintains Jason Cochran acted alone in the murder and coerced his wife to help conceal the death.
