Five full days of Dickinson Fair
NORWAY — Organizers expect a well-attended Dickinson County Fair this year, with double the stock car racing, the popular Saturday night country music concert, new midway acts and new vendors as the main attractions.
Skerbeck Carnival workers started setting up rides Tuesday afternoon and vendors were expected to put up their stalls today ahead of the fair’s official opening at 5 p.m. Thursday, Fair Secretary/Treasurer Trisha Wicklund said.
Annual fair attendance the past two years has been about 30,000.
But Wicklund said the fair board hopes two stock car racing events — one at 6 p.m. Friday and the other at 4 p.m. Sunday — will draw in even more people. The Friday race replaces the demolition derby, and points from that race will carry over to Sunday for a championship-style event, she said.
Saturday’s country music concert features Runaway Train and 141 North performing from 6 to 11 p.m. The concert has been a popular component of the fair in recent years, with Wicklund saying, “people seem to really like it.”
Wicklund also recommends fairgoers check out the new midway acts — the Hillbilly Science Spectacular and the Kent Family Magic Circus — as well as new food and arts and crafts vendors.
Admission is $5 a day or $15 for the week. Ages 5 and younger can get in free.
Due to a recent outbreak of canine influenza, the fair board asks that people not bring their dogs to the fair. Exceptions are participants in Sunday’s dog show, and dogs that remain confined to their owner’s campsite.
