Caspian museum to open soon

CASPIAN — School visits will begin Monday at the Iron County Museum in Caspian.

Classrooms from Forest Park and West Iron districts will be visiting throughout the month for half-day programs tailored to complement grade level curriculum.

This year a new program for families is also being offered. Scheduled for Saturday, May 25, in conjunction with the Golden K pancake breakfast, families are invited to come for pancakes and then participate in a history scavenger hunt from 9 to 11 a.m. The activity promises to be a fun way for families of all ages to enjoy touring the museum together while being challenged to locate specific historical details.

Summer hours will be in effect on Sunday, May 19. In order to better accommodate the public, the museum will be open to visitors seven days a week. Hours on Thursday through Sunday will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and from Monday through Wednesday, visitor hours will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission fees remain $10 per adult and $25 per family.

Local history will be spotlighted throughout the summer with programs for all ages. The first will be “Looking Back” on Wednesday evening, May 29, during a reception for artist Amy Brzoznowski. She is completing an art installation in Heritage Hall depicting the first 50 years of the museum’s growth and life.

The music of Bobby Bullet and Pamela Nesbit will complement the program, which is underwritten by a grant from the Michigan Council of Arts and Cultural Affairs. The program will begin at 6 p.m. and refreshments will be served.

A full schedule of 2019 museum events will be found in the Summer Fun Guide, on the Chamber Calendar of Events, and at the museum’s website: www.ironcountyhistoricalmuseum.org.
