Tattoo establishments must meet licensing requirements in Wisconsin

FLORENCE, Wis. — Individuals wanting to provide tattoo and/or body piercing services are required to undergo an inspection and meet licensing requirements on an annual basis in Wisconsin.

The inspections are regulated by Department of Safety and Professional Services and conducted by local health departments that are considered agents for the state. The purpose of the inspection is to ensure the establishment is meeting the code by providing equipment and services meeting public health safety standards. This provides preventative measures to limit the exposure to hepatitis or other potential diseases.

The Florence County Health Department provides inspections and permits to tattoo and body piercing facilities and should be contacted prior to providing any services. Operating without a license has a fine of $749.

In addition, the department recommends contacting the Florence County Zoning Department at 715-528-3206 regarding ordinances on land use for an establishment.

Florence County Health Department can be reached at 715-528-4837. Go to www.florencecountywi.com/ for more information on establishment licensing.
