This week’s Back to the Present, provided by the Menominee Range Historical Museum, is of the Peter Patient Hotel that was on southwest corner of Carpenter Avenue and East Hughitt Street in Iron Mountain. The photograph was taken between 1891 and 1900.

Peter Patient erected the three-story hotel and saloon in the summer of 1891.

Around the turn of the century, William James Harding ran the establishment as the Hotel Harding and was still managing the business in 1935.

The Harding Hotel had 32 rooms and was owned and managed by Thomas G. Horton by the late 1930s and early 1940s at 201 W. Hughitt St. Billed as “Iron Mountain’s $1.00 Hotel,” the guests slept on “Innerspring Mattresses” and enjoyed “hot and cold running water.”

By 1959, the building was known as the Hotel Flinn, Sam R. Flinn, proprietor.

Donald R. Cooper was the owner when the Hotel Flinn burned Dec. 2, 1963.

The second photo is the current view of the corner location, which is now basketball courts behind the Imagination Factory Children’s Museum.
