Menominee County deputy terminated for misconduct

MENOMINEE — A sergeant with the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office was fired Thursday for violating department policies, procedures and rules of conduct, the sheriff announced.

Brian Helfert was terminated from his job after outside agency Cohl, Stoker and Toskey, P.C., submitted its labor law consultation review, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

“Violating rules of conduct will not be tolerated,” Sheriff Kenny Marks said.

Marks confirmed Helfert was the same deputy previously reported in a Menominee Police Department news release as being under investigation for possible criminal sexual conduct involving a 16-year-old Menominee High School Student. An online listing stated he was school resource officer and juvenile crime investigator.

Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey T. Rogg will decide whether to issue criminal charges in the immediate future, though Marks stated his decision to fire Helfert was unrelated to any potential charges.

Starting at $3.50/week.
