KINGSFORD — At least two area churches again this year will offer free community dinners for the Christmas holiday.
The First Presbyterian Church of Kingsford will open its doors to area residents from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday for a traditional ham dinner in the church hall, 395 Hamilton Ave. in Kingsford.
“The meal is available for anyone in the area who would like to attend,” said Mary Jean Larson, church secretary. “Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the fellowship of others on Christmas Day.”
Meals can be delivered to those unable to attend. Rides are available for those who need transportation.
“Last year approximately 600 meals were either home-delivered or served at the church,” Larson said.
While the meal is free, reservations are required and can be made by calling the church office at 906-774-4211.
Volunteers willing to help with the dinner, including cooking, serving, clean-up and delivery, are encouraged to call the church.
Members of First Baptist Church of Iron River will offer their annual free Christmas meal from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the church gym at 800 Selden Road in Iron River.
Deliveries and pick-up meals will start at 10:30 a.m.
Reservations should be made for dining in or delivery by calling 906-265-4334. Deadline for reservations is 5 p.m. Monday.
Callers are asked to leave a name; number of meals requested; whether eating in, picking up or delivery; and, if being delivered, an address and telephone number to help drivers. Delivery can be done within an approximately 5-mile radius of Iron River.
The church served more than 235 meals in 2018. Donations are appreciated but not expected.
