IRON MOUNTAIN — The Run Iron Mountain Half Marathon made its eighth annual donation to the Dickinson County Cancer Loan Closet.

The donation was in the amount of $20,000, bringing the total donation of $106,500 to the DCCLC. Of the $20,000, $12,500 went to the DCCLC endowment fund, established through the Dickinson Area Community Foundation and the remaining $7,500 went directly to the Loan Closet for operating expenses.

The Dickinson County Cancer Loan Closet is a non-profit organization operated by volunteers that assists both cancer and non-cancer patients. The Loan Closet offers medical equipment at no cost, as well as financial assistance to those in need.

“We would like to thank our volunteers, attendees, and sponsors for making the 2019 Run Iron Mountain Road and Trail Half Marathon a success. Without their support, this donation would not have been possible,” said Joe Smith, Run Iron Mountain president and race director.

Sponsors included: Sue Varda-Cattelan, The Mariucci Family Foundation, Pine Mountain/Timberstone Ski and Golf Resort, CCI Systems, Inc, Bacco Construction Co., Bellin Health, Champion Inc., CJ Graphics, ERA Chevrolet, Family Chiropractic, First National Bank & Trust, Fleury, Singler & Co., Hall Orthodontics, MJ Electric, Moose Jackson Café, Verso Corporation, and UP PowerSports.

In addition to the donation to the DCCLC, the Run Iron Mountain Half Marathon will again be giving out two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors graduating in 2020. This scholarship looks for students that have participated in cross country or track and have run in or volunteered at this race or other similar events that promote wellness.

The Run Iron Mountain Half Marathon is heading into its ninth year and is scheduled in partnership with the Downtown Iron Mountain Oktoberfest event on Sept. 26.
