Astrea extends date to apply for free high-speed internet access

IRON MOUNTAIN — Astrea has extended the application date for the Astrea Connection Assistance program to April 10, due to an overwhelming response and identified need.

The Astrea Connection Assistance program offers free high-speed cable internet broadband access for new kindergarten through 12th-grade and college student in income-eligible households for 60 days. The sign-up period for this program has been extended to April 10. Eligibility requirements for the program include the following:

— The household does not currently have an internet connection; cell phones are excluded.

— The child or children are enrolled in a kindergarten to 12th grade or higher education establishments. K-12 students must meet free or reduced lunch program requirements. College-age students must be receiving Federal Student Aid Pell Grants.

To receive service, the home must be within Astrea’s cable service area with the ability to connect to the home without construction-related needs.

For those who do not qualify for the assistance programming, Astrea is offering programming that waives upgrade and installation fees until May 29. To take part in this program, go to astreaconnect.com and submit a new service request or call 800-236-8434 to speak with an advisor.
