Not guilty plea in chase
IRON MOUNTAIN — A Quinnesec woman accused of leading police on a 10-mile high-speed chase in March pleaded not guilty Friday in Dickinson County Circuit Court.
Amber Neuens, 27, is charged with fleeing a police officer, third degree, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison; and reckless driving, a 93-day misdemeanor.
Neuens filed a waiver of arraignment and was not expected to appear in court in person. The not guilty pleas were entered on her behalf by Dickinson County Circuit Judge Mary Barglind.
According to the criminal complaint, Kingsford Public Safety officers attempted to stop Neuens on March 3 after they saw her swerve toward the edge of the road, nearly striking two pedestrians.
During the chase, Neuens disregarded a stop sign, drove 60 mph in a 30-mph zone and reached speeds in excess of 100 mph, the complaint stated. The pursuit lasted about 11 minutes and covered about 10 miles, not stopping until she arrived at her home.
A pre-trial conference is set for June 15.
