Fire damages IM home Sunday

IRON MOUNTAIN — Two adults escaped injury in a fire Sunday afternoon that started on the porch of a home at 1308 W. Fleshiem St., Iron Mountain Fire Department said.

Crews were called just after 4 p.m. and remained on site for nearly three hours. The fire, believed to have started in a cigarette can, damaged two sides of the home.

There was light interior damage as well, firefighters said.

American Red Cross is helping the couple displaced by the fire.

“Red Cross disaster volunteers are providing these two people with assistance for short-term lodging and basic needs. We’ll work with them in the days ahead toward their recovery,” said Justin Kern, Red Cross communications officer.

Fire crews were assisted by Iron Mountain Police Department and the Victim Services Unit of the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
