New virus deaths in Marquette, Forest counties

State health officials this weekend added two new COVID-19 cases and a new death in Marquette County.

In Wisconsin, Forest County’s total also continues to climb, with now 29 cases and a second death. The Forest County Health Department posted the new death Saturday but provided no other details.

In an earlier statement, the health department said all but one case in the county appears connected in some way to the outbreak at The Bay at Nu-Roc Health and Rehabilitation Center in Laona, Wis.

For the Upper Peninsula on Sunday afternoon, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services data site listed Baraga County with one virus case; Chippewa County two cases; Luce County three cases; Schoolcraft County four cases; Gogebic County five cases and a death; Dickinson County five cases and two deaths; Houghton County six cases; Mackinac and Menominee counties eight cases each; Delta County 17 cases and two deaths; and Marquette County 56 cases and 11 deaths.

The MDHHS also has separately listed prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

The U.P. as of Sunday afternoon had 117 positive cases, including 16 deaths, according to state figures.

Iron, Keweenaw, Alger and Ontonagon counties have yet to report a COVID-19 case in the Upper Peninsula and are the only counties in Michigan not to have at least one positive coronavirus test.

The MDHHS statewide reported 513 confirmed new COVID-19 cases Sunday for a total of 57,397 to date. The state had 28 new deaths for 5,491 to date.

Dickinson County Healthcare System on Monday continued to show only three county residents testing positive at its facilities, with two deaths, along with five positives from other counties; those counties were not identified. DCHS had tested 592 people for COVID-19, with eight positive, 580 negative and four results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department on Monday posted it continues to have five positive cases, with two deaths and three recovered.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Sunday listed Marinette County with 33 cases and two deaths; Forest County with 29 cases and two deaths; Vilas County with seven cases; Florence County with two cases; and Iron County with two cases and a death.

Statewide, Wisconsin on Sunday had recorded 18,403 cases of COVID-19, with 592 deaths.
