Caution advised in Dickinson-Iron

KINGSFORD — A limit of 50 people for indoor gatherings — and 250 for outdoor gatherings — has been established under Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department reminds residents.

The health agency has been working with local event planners for the upcoming Independence Day holiday and advises that the order also requires social distancing of 6 feet.

“Our local communities have made it to date with very few positive COVID-19 cases,” said Daren Deyaert, health officer. “The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department advises all residents to adhere to the social distancing requirements, facial covering and good personal hygiene when attending public or private celebrations. Please be advised that just because an event is permitted under the order does not mean that extra precautions should not be taken.”

Whitmer on Wednesday also issued an order that restores restrictions on businesses in Michigan in areas with increased cases of COVID-19.

“If the community wants our local businesses to remain open, everyone must do their part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our area,” Deyaert said.

People with known health complications are urged to be cautious if they are considering attending holiday celebrations.
