Man killed, cafe hit when logging truck rolls
HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP — An Ontonagon County man was killed early Thursday in a logging truck accident in Marquette County.
Witnesses found the truck crashed into the Corner Cafe about 12:40 a.m. Thursday, then the man’s body a short time later, according to a Marquette County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Officials said it appeared the 60-year-old driver had parked the empty logging truck on the northbound shoulder of M-95 and got out, then was struck when the truck rolled.
The truck then continued to roll until it hit the east wall of the cafe, the release states.
M-95 was closed to traffic for 3.5 hours while authorities investigated the accident. That investigation is ongoing, along with a pending inspection of the logging truck by the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s office was assisted by the Ishpeming Police Department, the Michigan State Police, UP Health System EMS, Ely Township First Responders and the Humboldt Township Fire Department.
