North Dickinson buys Chromebooks

FELCH TOWNSHIP — The North Dickinson County School District will use roughly $24,000 of federal COVID-19 assistance money to buy 120 Google Chromebooks.

The $24,180 purchase will allow the district to provide Chromebooks, equipped with the Google Chrome OS operating system, to all of its students in eighth through 12th grades.

The district’s other devices now in the computer lab then could be reserved for sixth- and seventh-grade students, said Angel Inglese, district superintendent/principal.

The money will come from the federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief, or ESSER, funds distributed through the state, Inglese told the school board during a special meeting Thursday.

Technology is an allowed use of the money and will help with classwork that might be handled online, Inglese said.

The purchase is being made through Sehi Computer Products Inc. of Rochester Hills, Michigan, using the state’s Regional Educational Media Center, or REMC, bidding process.

The board unanimously approved the purchase. It should take about 14 weeks to receive the Chromebooks, which means they’ll arrive in October, Inglese said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
