The Iron County Health Department posted on its Facebook page Saturday it had reached 57 cases, three fewer than the state was showing Sunday.

“Results are coming in today from the Thursday National Guard testing in Hurley,” the department said. “Please answer your phone as you may receive a call from a 608 area code. They will attempt to call three times. Interviews and contact tracing is completed by Iron County Health Department staff on all positive cases.”

The MDHHS reported 437 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Saturday and 1,041 on Sunday for a total of 76,978 to date.

The state had 14 new deaths Saturday, including eight that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS. However, the MDHHS also decreased the state death total by 16 on Saturday, explaining on its data site that manual data entry errors were discovered during a data quality assessment review of death. With no new deaths Sunday, the state’s revised total for deaths is 6,149.

“The errors in death ascertainment occurred during local case investigations and involved mistakenly indicating individuals as being deceased who were not,” the MDHHS stated, adding, “Reviews are being conducted as part of ongoing efforts to ensure data quality and accurate case and death reporting in Michigan.”

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state DHS COVID-19 data site Sunday listed Marinette County with 226 cases and three deaths; Forest County with 57 cases and four deaths; Iron County 60 cases and one death; Vilas County 22 cases; and Florence County five cases.
