Kingsford chooses next city manager
KINGSFORD — A former Kingsford Public Safety officer who served as St. Ignace city manager has been hired to become city manager of Kingsford.
Michael Stelmaszek will assume his duties in January after current city manager Anthony Edlebeck retires.
Until that time, Stelmaszek will serve as assistant city manager with a $77,000 salary.
Stelmaszek then will be paid $82,500 in his first year as city manager and $85,800 the following year. He will also receive 80 hours of vacation time.
Stelmaszek was with KPS for 25 years and was acting director for about three months in 2015. He had been city manager at St. Ignace since 2017 before resigning in May for personal health reasons.
Stelmaszek is a graduate of Northern Michigan University with a master of public administration and Lake Superior State University with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and master’s degree in business administration.
Five candidates were interviewed for the position.
