State lists two more COVID-19 cases in Dickinson

The state Sunday indicated Dickinson County has had two more COVID-19 positives, though local health officials have not confirmed the cases.

According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services data site, Dickinson County now has 54 cases, two more than the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department posted on its Facebook page Friday afternoon. State and local numbers, however, have frequently differed.

The state’s COVID-19 data site this weekend listed a total of 42 more positives in the Upper Peninsula: nine in Gogebic County; eight in Menominee County; six in Marquette, Delta and Ontonagon counties; three in Dickinson County — the DIDHD had added a case Friday that was not reflected in the state numbers until Saturday; two in Alger County; and one each in Houghton and Chippewa counties.

On the Wisconsin side of the region, state statistics showed 19 new positives in Marinette County, five more in Vilas County and one each in Florence and Iron counties. The Florence County Health Department had reported its eighth case Friday.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services data site Sunday had Keweenaw County with two confirmed cases and one probable; Luce County with three confirmed cases; Baraga County, five confirmed cases; Alger County, 10 confirmed and one probable; Ontonagon County, 11 confirmed and one probable; Schoolcraft County, 12 confirmed cases and one probable; Iron County, 19 confirmed cases and one death; Mackinac County, 21 confirmed cases and six probable; Chippewa County, 28 confirmed cases and 12 probable; Houghton County, 43 confirmed cases and seven probable; Dickinson County, 54 confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Delta County, 76 confirmed cases, 20 probable and three deaths; Gogebic County, 112 confirmed cases, seven probable and a death; Menominee County, 119 confirmed cases and 15 probable; and Marquette County, 145 confirmed cases, 14 probable and 11 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS also earlier separately had prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using strictly the state figures, the Upper Peninsula has had 662 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 18 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 698 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Saturday and 514 more Sunday for a total of 87,403 to date. The state added three new deaths Saturday — including two that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — and two new deaths Sunday but also reduced the death count by three as cases previously marked as deceased were corrected by local health jurisdictions, for a total of 6,249.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Sunday listed Marinette County with 395 cases and three deaths; Iron County 75 cases and one death; Forest County 59 cases and four deaths; Vilas County 53 cases; and Florence County eight cases. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
